Important to Know About Peaches

Peaches are among drupes as they have a big stone (pit) in their center. The peach fruit has yellow or whitish flesh, a delicate aroma, and velvety skin. The flesh is very delicate and prone to bruise in some cultivars.

The color of peach flesh may be creamy white, deep yellow, dark red, or purple depending on the cultivar.

Peaches are climacteric fruits and have a short shelf life, so are typically consumed or canned within two weeks after being picked from the tree. They continue to ripen even after they have been harvested at the end of their growth period- prior to maturation on the parent plant.

Peach is a summer fruit. Depending on the climate, the picking season of peaches lies between May and October. The various heirloom varieties ripen in the latter part of the summer.

Best Variety of Peaches for Juicing

The well-known and popular cultivars of peaches are categorized into clingstones, freestones, and semi-freestones.

Clingstones and freestones, both types have either white or yellow flesh. Peaches with white flesh are sweeter than yellow-fleshed peaches.

The flesh of freestones peaches separates easily from its pit. In clingstones, the pit adheres firmly to the flesh. Freestone peaches are good to eat and clingstone are preferred for canning. The other cultivars of peach are semi-freestones which are partially freestone and partially clingstone bearing the characteristics of both of these categories. They are considered an ideal option for juicing.

Selection of Best Peaches to Juice

Peach juice prepared from fresh ripe peaches is so fragrant summer drink that everyone enjoys it. I prepared this homemade pure fresh juice with freshly picked peaches with three other ingredients.

Select the ripe and in-season peaches. Typically, they have a sweet smell but make sure that they are not brownish, bruised, or wrinkled. The peaches having such texture are either overripe or damaged.

With good quality ripe and sweet peaches, the juice will be wonderful. You will have to add only a minimal amount of sugar or you may need no sugar at all.

If you got peaches in bulk quantity then getting the refreshing juice from these peaches is one of the best ways to consume the peaches. We also use them in desserts like peach cobbler, peach cake, etc.

Peach Juice Benefits and Some Precautions

We like peaches due to their flavor. Peach is not only a delicious fruit but it gives us numerous health benefits.

Benefits

Peach juice is a hearty and nourishing drink. According to nutritionists, peaches have a low number of calories and have a sufficient amount of fiber, vitamin A, C, & E, and minerals.

Peach juice has anti-aging properties due to the presence of vitamin E and other antioxidants. It helps in softening the skin and also protects the skin from inflammation caused due to hot weather.

With vitamin A and C, it boosts the immunity system. Antioxidants found in peaches protect the human body from fatal diseases like cancer. The abundance of fiber improves the digestive system and reduces stomach acidity.

Peach juice improves heart health. It regulates the circulation of blood in the body and strengthens the brain and liver.

Having a low number of calories, this fruit juice helps in healthy weight loss. Our body can derive the essential nutrients from peach juice without consuming too many calories.

Precautions

Besides its benefits, it has some side effects, too, but they are very few. We should take some precautions to get full benefits out of the peach juice.

Peach juice has mild sedative qualities. So, you may feel asleep in the office or at work centers if you drink it in your breakfast. Especially be extra cautious if you are to go on a long drive.

Its excessive use may cause allergic reactions, stomach issues, fatigue, and diarrhea.

Bottled Beverage and Fresh Peach Juice

Bottled beverages mostly contain processed sugar which is considered a leading cause of obesity. That’s why it is always advised to consume less sugar in the daily diet to avoid its bad effects on health.

Freshly prepared peach juice drink gives a healthy boost to our body through vitamins and minerals. This homemade peach drink has a minimal amount of added sugar in it.

Peach Juice Recipe

Here is a very delicious and quick-to-make peach juice recipe. We’ll prepare refreshing peach juice from freshly picked peaches.

In this recipe, I used ¾ liter of water as the peaches have a low amount of water in them. You may adjust the water to your choice for a thick or thin consistency.

I recommend using fresh peaches to enjoy the freshness of the peaches. But no worries if you have frozen peaches, probably you got no time to juice them fresh.

Preparation

Rub and rinse the peaches well with fresh water. Cut the peach into wedges by slicing them into quarters so that the stone (pit) can be removed easily.

You can peel off the skin if you prefer but I recommend making peach juice with skin-on to get maximum health benefits out of it.

Don’t worry, the skin of the peaches may blend easily in a blender.

You can easily pit the peaches. Cut all the peaches into wedges and pit all of them.

How to Make Peach Juice

I prepared the peach juice in a blender. You can prepare the juice by using a blender, in a simple way with just a few ingredients; already there in your kitchen, and enjoy the pure peach drink with no additives.

Put all the peach wedges into the blender. Pour in the sugar. You can adjust the sugar to your taste and also add black salt to it.

Peach juice gets a nice flavor with the black salt. Add lemon juice to it. It also gives an extra taste to the peach juice. Now add ¾ liter water (3 to 4 cups) to the juice to get the perfect juice consistency. Close the lid of the blender.

You can blend the juice in just 1 to 2 minutes if you have an extra power blender. In a normal slow-speed blender, blend the juice for 3 to 4 minutes. In general, blend until smooth.

When all the ingredients got blended, add ice to chill the juice. Crush the ice manually or with an ice crusher and add to juice. Then, re-blend the juice for half a minute to mix the ice in it.

Peach Drink – How to Serve

The refreshing and nourishing peach drink is ready for you. Shift the drink into long and fancy serving glasses. Decorate the glasses with the sprig of mint and peach slices on the side and serve.

Drink the juice immediately as the fresh juice is more nutritious than the frozen one.

If you like, you can store any leftover juice in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. Shake the juice well before serving. You may also freeze the juice for later use.

The Best way to Chill the Juice

Peach juice tastes best when it’s served chilled. There are many ways to chill your peach juice:

You can add the ice cubes after pouring the juice into the serving glasses. The ice thaw and chill the juice slowly. As the ice melts, the juice gets diluted and you can’t enjoy the smooth consistency. I prefer the other methods.

In the second method, you can crush the ice manually or with an ice crusher and add it to juice in the blender. Then blend the juice again to mix the ice into it.

The third option to get chilled juice is, first chill the peaches by keeping them in the refrigerator overnight and then blending them to get the juice. You may add chilled water to increase the juice and to get the preferred consistency.

I recommend the 2nd and 3rd methods to have a perfect chilled juice and you will enjoy the smooth consistency and chillness from the very first sip till the last.

Storing the Peach Juice

I prefer to prepare the juice from fresh peaches and consume it immediately to get optimal health benefits. To store the juices longer than 2 or 3 days is not the best bet.

You can store fresh juices in the refrigerator and consume them within 3 days since they have no additives. However, you can freeze the servings for up to 3 months by placing each of them into a separate Ziploc container. When you want to drink thaw it and enjoy.

Tips to get the Best Juice

  • It’s better to use fresh ripe peaches and avoid using unripe peaches as they are not good for juicing and have a bitter taste.
  • Always try to use in-season peaches as they are perfectly ripe, sweet, and juicy.
  • You may determine the level of sweetness of peaches prior to juicing by tasting a wedge of peach, so that you may adjust the quantity of sugar perfectly.
  • Adjust the quantity of sugar as per the cultivar of the peach as some varieties are sweeter than others. If you bought slightly under-ripe peaches, you may place them on the kitchen counter for ripening. Peaches will ripe in 2 to 3 days depending on the room temperature.
  • If you want to juice the ripe peaches at a later time, you may place them in the refrigerator. It will slow down the ripening process.

Notes

Blender needs liquid for smooth blending. As the peaches have a low amount of water in them, so, you’ll have to add water to prepare the juice comfortably. However, you may adjust the water to your preference.
If you want to drink the pulp-free juice, strain the peach juice through a fine-mesh sieve, cheesecloth, or nut milk bag to remove the excess pulp.
