Chicken steak is a delightful dish. This dish is like an American breaded cutlet dish. Large and tender pieces of chicken breast are first flattened and tenderized and then marinated well before pan-frying.
We pan-fry these steaks in the skillet or grill pan and cook them till perfectly golden brown. The exterior of the cooked steak turns crispy and the interior remains moist and succulent. Along with the chicken steak recipe, I’ve also mentioned here the orange sauce recipe for these steaks.
This dish is versatile in serving. You can serve these steaks with anything of your choice. Usually, we serve it with pan-roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. Try, truly, you’ll enjoy it. Great to serve your family on a holiday.
This dish resembles the American chicken-fried steak dish. American dish is not made with chicken. The meat in American cuisine consists of beefsteak, usually tenderized cube steak. chicken-fried steaks are deep-fried and smothered in the creamiest gravy.
How to Make Chicken Steak
Preparation
Take a boneless chicken breast. Slice it lengthwise into two halves with the help of a knife. Now flatten these pieces with a meat tenderizer (mallet).
After you flatten the steaks, immerse them in the marinade and set them aside for 5 to 6 hours.
Preparing the Marinade
Take a mixing bowl and combine white vinegar, soy sauce, white pepper powder or black pepper powder, garlic powder, and mustard paste or mustard powder. Mix all the ingredients well. Add salt to it and mix it.
Immerse the chicken steaks in the marinade and coat them well with the marinade with a hand or spoon. Now cover the bowl and set it aside for marination of the chicken steaks for 5 to 6 hours. You can set the marination time to ½ hour only but the recommended time for best results is 5 to 6 hours.
The marinade penetrates well inside the pounded and flattened steaks and they can be perfectly cooked. When marinated, it gets bursting flavors from white vinegar, soy sauce, and the seasoning spices; white pepper powder, garlic powder, mustard powder, and salt.
Frying the Chicken Steak
Take a skillet or a grill pan and grease it with 1 to 2 tbsp of cooking oil. Heat the oil and place the chicken steaks in it. Cook them for 2 to 3 minutes on each side on low flame. Flip the sides of pieces after cooking them 2 to 3 minutes. Now cook the other side for 2 to 3 minutes. The steak will cook through within 6 to 7 minutes.
If you have many chicken pieces, you can cook them in batches. When the steaks are cooked through, shift them to the serving dish and serve hot with the orange sauce and pan-roasted veggies of your choice.
Sauce for Chicken Steak
I made orange sauce for these steaks. The steaks get the yummiest taste with this orange sauce.
Extract one cup orange juice with the help of a juice extractor. Take a pan and pour this juice into it. Keep the flame low to medium. Add sugar to taste to the juice and mix it well.
Now add salt to taste and white pepper powder. Mix all the ingredients well and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
When it turns to homogenous mixture, add corn flour to it, (1 tbsp corn flour mixed in 3 to 4 tbsp water). Remember pour this liquid gradually while stirring constantly to avoid making lumps inside the sauce. After adding the corn flour, cook it for 1 minute. Thicken it as you like. This orange sauce is ready within 4 to 5 minutes.

- ½ tsp Salt or to taste
Sauce for Chicken Steak
- 1 cup Orange Juice (fresh)
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- ¼ tsp Salt
- ¼ tsp White pepper powder
- 1 tbsp Corn flour
- 3-4 tbsp Water

- Cook the steaks till golden brown and crispy. Now shift them to the serving dish.

- Extract 1 cup of orange juice with the help of a juice extractor. Take a pan and pour juice into it. Keep the flame low to medium.
- Now add sugar to the juice and mix it well.
- Add salt and white pepper powder. Mix all the ingredients well and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes.
- When it turns to a homogenous mixture, add cornflour to it, (1 tbsp cornflour mixed in 3 to 4 tbsp water). Pour this liquid gradually while stirring constantly to avoid making lumps inside the sauce.
- After adding the cornflour, cook it for 1 minute. Thicken the sauce as you like. This orange sauce is prepared within 4 to 5 minutes.
- Serve hot the yummy and flavorful chicken steaks with the orange sauce or pan-roasted veggies and mashed potatoes.
