Steamed Chicken and Vegetables

With Steamed Chicken and Vegetables Recipe you can cook a very delicious and healthy chicken and vegetable dish. I cooked this dish in steam without using the steamer.

Let’s see how can we enjoy village-style cooking and which items we need to make this dish flavorful. Also, we’ll see how to make it easily outdoors or at home. I made it in the open air in the natural environment over wooden fuel (campfire). Surely, you’ll enjoy the great taste of this dish.

Steamed Chicken and Vegetables Recipe

  1. Take the whole chicken. Cut it into 4 pieces i.e. 2 leg pieces and the chest piece into two halves. Now give deep cuts to all these pieces to get the marination ingredients absorbed well inside these cuts.
  2. Take a mixing bowl and prepare the marinade with these ingredients; yogurt, ginger garlic paste, freshly ground black pepper, freshly ground dry coriander seeds, red chili flakes, red chili powder, spices mixture (garam masala), white cumin seeds, turmeric, and salt. Set aside 2 & ½ tbsp of mixture for vegetables. Now apply this marinade to all the pieces of chicken. Rub evenly on all sides and inside the cuts. Set the chicken aside for marination for at least 2 hours.
  3. Now take potato, tomato, onion, and capsicum, chop the vegetables into rough cuts (nearly large dice-sized cuts), and include whole green chilies. Put the 2 & ½ tbsp mixture into a medium-sized metal dish (which can be easily placed inside the cooking pot). Pour lemon juice into it. Rub the mixture well on the vegetables with the help of your hands.

Pan-frying the Chicken

  1. Take the skillet and place it on the stove. Pour some cooking oil into it for pan-frying. We’ll pan-fry the chicken so that its exterior does not overcook by the time its interior reaches the required temperature, and to keep the chicken juicy.
  2. Heat the oil till hot enough and put the marinated chicken into the skillet to fry. Keep the flame medium and continue frying the chicken from each side till golden brown.

Steam Chicken and Vegetables Together

  1. Take a large enough cooking pot like a stockpot and put it on the stove. Pour almost 2 liters of hot water into it for steaming. Place some spacer, like a steaming rack or any other metal stand at the bottom of the pot to keep the vegetable dish on it and ensure sufficient height at which the boiling water doesn’t go inside the dish. Place the dish containing vegetables on the steaming rack. Take some type of strainer and place the fried chicken pieces on it, then place this strainer on the vegetables.
  2. Now cover the pot and cook the chicken & vegetables in steam for about 1 and ½ hours over medium flame. Place some folded cloth over the cover of the pot and then keep a heavy-weight object over it. This is for holding the maximum steam inside the pot. After 1 & ½ hours you will have an amazing and delicious dish ready for you. Serve it with naan/chapati, and raita, or serve it with boiled rice.

Tips for Steamed Chicken with Vegetables

  • Use some type of metal dish only to put the vegetables in it for steaming. Don’t use any glass or melamine dish for this purpose.
  • While placing a steaming rack inside the cooking pot, ensure that there should be sufficient height of this stand, so that the water while boiling couldn’t reach the vegetables.
  • While steaming keep a heavy item over the cooking pot cover to retain the maximum steam inside the pot.

Ingredients
  

Chicken Seasoning and Vegetables Spice Rub

  • 2 kg Chicken
  • 3 tsp Salt (or to taste)
  • 3 tsp Red chili flakes
  • 2 tsp Red chili powder
  • 2 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1.5 tbsp Ginger & Garlic paste
  • 2 tsp Black pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1.5 tsp Spices mixture (garam masala)
  • 2 tsp Coriander seeds (freshly ground)
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 1.5 tsp Black or white cumin seeds
  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • 1 cup Cooking oil (for pan-frying)

Vegetables to Steam with Chicken

  • 250 grams Potatoes
  • 150 grams Tomatoes
  • 200 grams Onions
  • 1 Capsicum
  • 6-7 Green chilies

How to Steam Chicken and Vegetables

  • Cut the whole chicken into 4 pieces and give them deep cuts for good marination.

  • Now chop potatoes, tomatoes, onions, and capsicum.
  • Combine the seasoning ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well to make a good mixture for marination.

  • Set aside some mixture (2 and ½ tbsp) for vegetables. Apply the remaining mixture thoroughly to all pieces of chicken and marinate it for 2 hours.
  • Take a medium-sized metal dish and place chopped vegetables in it. Pour the spices mixture and lemon juice over the vegetables. Rub the spice mixture well on the vegetables with the help of your hands.

Pan-Frying the Chicken

  • Now fry the marinated chicken in a skillet or frying pan. Pour some cooking oil into the skillet for pan-frying. Keep the flame medium and continue frying the chicken from each side till golden brown.

Steam Chicken and Vegetables Together

  • Take the cooking pot and pour 2 liters of water into it. Keep a steaming rack inside the pot.
  • Place the vegetable dish on the steaming rack.

  • Now place a strainer on the vegetables and place the fried chicken in it.

  • Cover the pot and place a heavy object over it to retain the maximum steam inside the pot for cooking. Cook the chicken and vegetables in steam for about 1 and ½ hours while keeping the flame medium.
  • After 1 & ½ hours you will have a delicious steamed chicken and vegetable dish ready for you. Serve it either with naan/chapati and raita or with boiled rice.
